About Me
I am a postdoc at Jackson School of Geosciences at UT Austin, where I am working with Dr. Bridget Scanlon and The Extreme weather and Urban Sustainability (TExUS) Lab.
I have received my PhD from Purdue University advised by Dr. Keith Cherkauer and mentored by Dr. Frank Marks, Dr. Wen-wen Tung and Dr. Dev Niyogi as my committee members. I was advised by Dr. Shivam Tripathi for my Master's in Civil Engineering, majoring in Hydraulics and Water Resources Engineering at IIT Kanpur.
Academically, I have spent about two years teaching as Assitant Professor atthe School of Civil Engineering, KIIT University and being a Project Scientist at Interdisciplinary Centre for Water Research (ICWaR) -IISc Bangalore.
Brief Bio
I am a first generation international student and NASA FINESST fellow pursuing research in the field of hydrology, data science and extreme events such as hurricane.
In my free time, I enjoy astronomy, hiking, tennis, mountaineering. I am keen to explore books and conversations that invigorate ideas and perception, practice meditation. I am vocal and encourage women’s representation in data science and engineering.
Alka is born in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, India and did her schooling in Rajkamal Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Dhanbad, Jharkhand.
I have travelled and lived across different states of India and USA, for job, studies and leisure.
